Relaxation Script

Hypnobirthing uses a script that is designed to be listened to during the birth to deepen relaxation. It helps to bring you into a state of relaxation at the birth, assuming that you practice often in the months leading up to the birth. I didn't really like the one provided so Taylor wrote one for me. I try to listen to it every day and practice my breathing/relaxation while I listen. I wanted to share it with others for their benefit. Also, the script from Hypnobirthing is on pages 142-145 of the Hypnobirthing Book.

Here is our script (with baby's name removed...sorry):

Relaxation/Affirmation Script
New life is forming, growing, and moving within you. You are part of the promise, the covenant that God made with Abraham. “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3:29)
God promised Sarah that she would have a child. He spoke to Abraham and said, “I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” (Genesis 17:16)
I believe that promise was not only for Sarah and Abraham, but that promise is for us. Out of your womb will come a son and he will be the leader of nations and a seeker after God’s heart.
A very important event is taking place in your life…a wonderfully normal, natural, biological, and spiritual event. God designed your body to be perfectly able to give birth to this kicking, moving little boy that has been a part of your body for so long. You are a strong and capable woman. “You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
Soon it will be time for _________ to become his own separate person. One cycle is ending, and immediately, another is beginning. What has been called “labor” is that in-between experience…that small, short period of time and space between the baby’s two worlds. God knows this child, and he has been known since the creation of the world.
Our baby is strong and healthy. “For you created _________’s inmost being; you knit him together in his mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:13)
Change from one stage to another brings pressure, and then release. You will soon experience this as the change is completed and fulfilled. You can feel this and embrace it and welcome it as refreshing and totally natural.
With your mind and spirit, you build a healthy attitude and happy expectation. Happy childbirth has much to do with a healthy, joyous, loving anticipation. It is something remarkably beautiful. Being a channel of new life is a spiritual experience. “Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.” (Job 37:14) With this understanding, total relaxation and calm breathing, all discomfort is lessened and often entirely absent.
As you begin labor, meditate on the wonder of natural childbirth, the way that God intended it to be. Whenever you feel your body begin to surge, actively think “release” and “let go” of tension. There is a time for experiencing that uterine wave, flowing with it, and ultimately letting it go.
You are learning to relax, to flow and melt with the very rhythm of life itself. With relaxation and positive expectation, you have come to know that all things are possible. Remember this verse from Philippians 4:19 as you relax: “But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Ask God right now to give you all the strength, peace, and relaxation you need to give birth to a beautiful baby boy. Trust God to complete this good work that he started in you. (Philippians 1:6)
In your mind, picture the shore of a lake or an ocean. Watch the endless waves softly brushing to the shore…the ebb and flow of the water. Observe it advancing and withdrawing over the sand. Become a part of it, flowing into it. Become a part of the rhythm of the waves within your body…the surge and release.
Breathe in the natural relaxants of your own body…endorphins- many times more effective than the strongest of drugs known to man. Be at peace and release it throughout your body….breathing in and breathing through…giving birth to your baby.
With proper physical, spiritual, and mental exercise, you are preparing yourself for this wonderful celebration of life. As you get into the rhythm and work with your own mind and body, the easier and smoother it becomes. Each time you hear my voice and feel my gentle touch, the more easily your relaxation deepens.
Breathe…slowly, confidently, gently. Each time you breathe in, breathe relaxation and peace. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7) Each time you breathe out, breath out stress, as the body’s natural endorphins willfully breathe out tension and stress.
Feel only the sway of the wave that is bringing our baby closer and closer to birth. Relax and flow with your body’s natural rhythm, confident in the fact that your body knows exactly what to do. Trust it. Relax, and let it do its job. Your muscles work in complete harmony to make birthing easier.
Birth is a wonderful, safe experience. Your body is in the perfect position for birth. See the baby coming smoothly from your womb. Our baby’s birth will be easy because you are so relaxed. Release all fear as you meditate on this verse: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.” (1 John 4:18) God’s love for you is perfect. He will not fail or let you down. _______ will not come early; he will arrive at exactly the right time. Your labor will not be too fast, but it will be just the right amount of time.
